The owner of this domain (@briankb) is a MAKER and will use this awesome domain for the good of the Maker community. Initial use will be to allow verified non-profit Maker and Hacker spaces to create and use a subdomain from the maker.space TLD. We will also setup a currated directory to those and other websites. (coming soon!)
MakersCentral is a community forum for makers of electronics, wood, metal, plastic, 3d printing, CNC machining and other cool things we make or modify into something cool.
I think this paragraph from Wikipedia describes the maker culture very well:
The maker culture is a contemporary culture or subculture representing a technology-based extension of DIY culture. Typical interests enjoyed by the maker culture include engineering-oriented pursuits such as electronics, robotics, 3-D printing, and the use of CNC tools, as well as more traditional activities such as metalworking, woodworking, and traditional arts and crafts. The subculture stresses new and unique applications of technologies, and encourages invention and prototyping.1 There is a strong focus on using and learning practical skills and applying them creatively.
Thanks to the awesome work at Discourse.org we have a great and modern forum without the hangups of more traditional forum software.
Don't be afraid to login and join or start a conversation. You can use your existing Google, Twitter, or Facebook login or create a username/password just for this forum.
If you have any questions about the forum please visit the Meta category.
Finally, please understand this is a brand new forum and things may be a bit slow. The best thing to do is to just post and encourage your friends to join you here to reply.
Soon we will open up the blog category for others including a redirect to a custom domain for a specific blog. This of course requires some work and more importantly it requires knowing the forum will be around so it will either be a paid option or via appropriate sponsors or donations otherwise funded to cover hosting, backup, and administration costs.
